| What are Orbs? | |||||||||||||

I caught an orb when my room/lens was clean?
A lot of people hard heard about the 'dust' explanation of orbs. Often people reply that their room was clean, or that it's cleaned regularly for dust. No room is free of dust (indeed electronics companies spend millions of pounds trying to create 'dust free' environments, and even they don't manage it!). To find out more about dust, visit our dust explanation section.
I kicked up dust and took no orbs! Some researchers experiment with orbs, albeit in highly unscientific ways, and come to odd conclusions. Someone once told me that orbs were not dust, because they stood in a doorway and had half a dozen people kick up dust and no orb appeared! It is a common misconception that orbs appear anywhere within the field of view of the camera. Orbs are actually within centremetres of the camera lens. Therefore if you stood in the doorway whilst dust was being kicked up several metres from your camera, there is no reason why that would produce a greater number of orbs!
I clean my lens on a regular basis, but I still photograph orbs! After hearing about the dust theory of orbs I've spoken to a few people who become meticulous about cleaning their lens for dust in order to minimise orbs. When they still photograph orbs some conclude that dust must not be the cause after all. In reality, dust that is actually on the lens of your camera will not show up as orbs at all! It is only airborne particles within the 'orb zone' - which starts a number of centimetres away from the lens of the camera - which can be photographed as orbs. This is explained in greater depth in the explanation section.
