 What are Orbs?

I caught an orb which is actually behind something else?

One occasional complaints about the dust theory of orbs is that - if orbs are the product of airborne particles close to the camera - surely if an orb appears to be behind an object it cannot possibly be dust.

Orbs that appear to be behind objects

Orb 'behind' budI've never come across a convincing example.  Several have been sent to me but I don't have the permission to reproduce any here.

One example from the ASSAP website (photo, left, copyright ASSAP) shows an orb the appears to be behind a bud.  In reality this orbs is particularly pale and you can simply see the bud through the orb.

This example does not reflect the photos that have been sent to me, however.  Most photos sent to me depict orbs that seem to be adjacent to light-coloured objects.  The orb appears to end where the object begins.  But in reality because the orb is a similar colour to the object, but paler, it cannot be distinguished from the object.

If anyone does have a convincing photo we are always happy to receive them.

An interesting aside

Orbs behind depth of fieldIt is actually possible to capture orbs that are reflections from objects many feet away from the camera (although not dust, for obvious reasons).  In the explanation section we talked about orbs appearing behind the point of nearest focus (closer than the depth of field).  There is a corresponding area beyond the depth of field, as far away from the subject as the camera can photograph.  This is demonstrated on the photo to the left (courtesy of Wikipedia); see large size image here.
